It’s All in the Details.
The little details hold sentiment of life past and the excitement of life future.
Details from the wedding of Emily + Julian LaBorde
So much is housed in these little items and I could spend hours on a wedding day just shooting them!
These items often tell a story all their own and my favorite part is knowing that these items often hold a significance only you and your husband truly appreciate. A story of who each of you are as a person, and how you come together on this day. You want to make sure you include everything in your details to tell the story of your lives and how they’re coming together!
Details are one of those things that may be last on your mind to think about, but they hold their very own important place on a wedding day, too! So let’s give them some thought!

So what kinds of things should be included in details? Let’s make a list!
Obviously your dress & veil, but if you have a special hanger for your dress consider including that as well! The plastic little hanger most dresses come with just stands out next to a perfectly chosen beautiful wedding gown!
Your wedding rings! Keep all of them together including your engagement ring, your wedding band and his! That way they can be captured together! If you have a special keepsake ring box you’d like in your photos include that as well! You can find beautiful ones on Amazon & Etsy!
Your bouquet and any charms you'll have on it! Personally I love the special touch of a loved one’s face hiding under the florals on your way down the isle, and I will always swoon over a beautiful rosary wrapped around the stems. Bonus points if you get extra scrap florals from your florist that can be used in your flat lays! They really add beautiful depth and texture and we love using them when we take our flat lays of your details!
Your wedding invitations or any other stationary you used for your wedding, such as programs, detail inserts, etc. Especially love letters and vow books! Grace Paper Co. has GORGEOUS custom invitations and the most beautiful books to write your letter to your new husband! These are things you’ll cherish for a lifetime, plus is looks so much better when you’re reading from a handwritten letter vs. your phone in photos!
Your accessories, like your shoes, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, hair pieces, garter belts, etc.
Something Old - The earrings your mom wore on her wedding day, your grandmothers necklace, your aunts bracelet, these are all ideas for sourcing your something old! This is the opportunity to really use something sentimental!
Something New - This one’s easy because you’ll most likely have something new in the form of your dress, shoes, jewelry, or anything like that!
Something Borrowed - This one can go hand in hand with your something old if you plan to give the item back! Otherwise, maybe borrowing a handkerchief from someone special to wrap around your bouquet or a special item borrowed from your maid of honor or one of your bridesmaids!
Something Blue - I’ve seen wedding dates stitched to the inside of dress linings in a baby blue, I’ve seen blue lace garters, blue accents in the bouquet, blue shoe bottoms, baby blue nail polish, and even subtle aquamarine stone in wedding day jewelry and hair pieces! All of these are good ways to incorporate that little pop of blue! This is your opportunity to get creative!
Perfume! - When Neil and I got married we chose a perfume and cologne that we wore for the first time on our wedding day, so every time we wear it now the scent brings us back to that day! Just one a way to add a little more sentiment to it!
Don't forget about hubby to be's details as well! Things like cufflinks, neckties, his watch, cigars, and his cologne all add to the story of the day! Keeping his details in a little box would be a good idea, too!
Include any other details that may be sentimental to you as well! I’ve seen promise rings, six pence, rosaries, and all kinds of things make their way into these memories and I’m here for it! These little details are a representation of you! Include everything that’s important to you!

Now let’s talk keeping track of all that!
Keeping your details all in one place like a special bag or shoe box helps us as photographers run through those details and make sure we didn’t miss anything that may be important to you! Obviously big items like your dress, veil, and bouquet, wouldn't fit in a bag or box, but it makes all the little items easy to grab and go! Even better for you, when they make it back to you and it's time to put them on, you'll know exactly where to find them!

Where to find it all!
Amazon & Etsy is a great place to look for all these items! Ask the matrons of your family for the borrowed and blues, and have fun shopping for all the news!! I've compilied a few inspo lists for you to help you keep it simple, though! Just click on the image to shop!
Disclaimer: some items are affiliate links which means I make a small commission when you purchase the products I’ve recommended! Feel free to search on your own without using the links if you prefer! The following product photos were not taken by Bull’s Eye Films + Media.
